Andes Wines Introduces French, Argentinean and Chilean Wine Tastings on South American Cruises
With more than a decade of experience hosting Chilean and Argentine wine tastings aboard the National Geographic Endeavour and Explorer Expedition Ships – and most recently on the Silver Cloud cruise liner in Chilean Fjords and Patagonia – Max Morales of Andes Wines is now expanding his specialised wine tour services to additional cruise lines across Latin America and on a worldwide basis.
This expansion, driven by growing demand from onboard guests, will feature French wines for the very first time as well as continuing with Chilean and Argentinean wines.
New destinations elevate wine tasting experiences
For the 2024-2025 season, the wine tasting provision on board cruise ships of Andes Wines will be focusing on ports such as Ushuaia and Buenos Aires (Argentina), Puerto Montt & Coquimbo in Chile, plus Montevideo (Uruguay) and Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) as new future destinations with a special focus on the latter where Max Morales lived for over a year.
In the case of the port of Cartagena in Colombia, Andes Wines has already started the forge local alliances.
The initiative aims to establish a specialist service offering of themed Chilean and Argentine wine tastings for passengers cruising both the Pacific and the Atlantic.
With a strong focus on French wines, Andes Wines is looking to establish collaborations with brands that are currently distributed in South and Central America, geared towards a series of tastings to evaluate the wines for inclusion in upcoming cruises.
Between 2000 and 2019, Max Morales conducted wine tastings aboard the National Geographic Endeavour and Explorer Expedition Ships. In the two years prior to the pandemic, he continued his work on the Silver Cloud cruise ship. These tastings spanned a range of stunning locations from Callao in Peru to Punta Arenas in Chile.
Focus on ancient vineyards and coffee preservation
Morales is currently leading efforts to preserve the genetic heritage of coffee and vineyards in South America, both of which face threats from harsh agro-climatic conditions. He highlights Chile as holding the original genetics of these crops, established by early Spanish, French, Portuguese and Dutch explorers. As a bonus feature aboard the cruises, Morales also promises to provide an in-depth lecture on the history of wine in Chile.
Without doubt, Max Morales is revolutionising wine tourism in South America with a unique approach that blends luxury and sustainability, providing an enriching experience for an international audience.
A seasoned wine tour guide in the Coquimbo Region since 2000, Max works freelance leading groups of wine enthusiasts and cruise passengers through the Limari and Elqui Valleys.
His expertise also encompasses the production of Chilean Pisco, with an in-depth understanding of the entire process using nine authorised grape varieties, namely:
• Moscatel Amarilla
• Moscatel Blanca or Temprana
• Moscatel de Alejandría or Italia
• Moscatel de Austria
• Moscatel de Frontignan
• Moscatel Negra
• Moscatel Rosada (Pastilla)
• Pedro Jiménez
• Torontel
